Adivasi, Salwa Judum & Naxal in Chhattisgarh

Salwa Judum (literally means a group hunt) is an anti-Naxal movement in Chhattisgarh State, which was started in 2005 as a government supported civic movement and later changed into a militia to counter-naxal insurgency.

Chhattisgarh state has over the years trained a number of SPOs or 'Special Police Officers', from amongst the Adivasi, who are part of Salwa Judum in the state. The Chhattisgarh government on February 5, 2009, told the Supreme Court of India that the Salwa Judum was slowly disappearing in the State.
